Deduno, Gutierrez, Nishioka, Hollimon and Dinkelman were on the opening day roster, so they would get their spots back... Gibson will be out for a long time, but if he is able to come back and actually get to Rochester, thye'll make it work. Thompson had TJ and missed last year, so he will likely do some rehab. I also suspect there may be a few of those minor league free agents that may have an opt-out clause. THere is also the lovely "Fake DL" in the minor leagues, so it's easier to stash a couple of guys.

Benson clearly needs more time in Rochester, and Revere should not be in RF. I woudln't mind seeing a platoon of Plouffe and Tosoni (when he's had another 50 plate appearances in Rochester) in RF, and since they're rebuilding, no harm in playing Komatsu as well.

I think he can be a .300/.350/.360 type, and if he can post a .710 OPS, he could be very valuable because he could steal 70+ bases and track down a lot of baseballs with his speed. The arm is something that can not be overstated. It is that bad and it will cost a lot of runs. But, if Span is traded, he can be a stop gap to Hicks.

First, I don't think it's fair to judge what he can be based on what we saw last year. It was his first big league time and he had a horrible team and horrible defense behind him. I don't think he has great stuff, but he can be a decent back-of-the-rotation guy, and there is a lot of value in that. however, he doesn't have tremendous stuff, so he'll need to hit spots, get corners and get good defense to be successful, and like Pavano, he'll have those games where he gets drilled a bit.

Obviously there are several things about his lineup construction at times, in-game decisions, etc, but every manager makes similar decisions, so I have no complaint about that. The Twins have won, and Gardy deserves some credit for that, and he has received that nationally (no team's fans think their manager is as good as they are). I definitely give Gardy a pass on 2011. He had no chance and nothing he could have done would have helped thanks to the injuries to pretty much everyone. Again, this year, he has no pitching.

I'm not saying Gardy is perfect, and if he were to be fired, it would be understandable... but I think managers/coaches dont' get enough credit when teams are successful, and I think they get far too much blame when things go bad. I definitely don't think that Gardy has lost his fire, and if that doesn't translate to the players, whose fault is that?

Brad Radke is a good example of a guy without great stuff who was very successful. The Twins have tried to "clone" him in their drafts and in their development.

In recent years, they have added some power arms, but some have been hurt, and some (Gutierrez?) haven't developed a second or third pitch necessary to be a starter, and if you only have one or two good pitches, the bullpen is the right thing.

I think it's some luck and somewhat the Radke Factor.

I'd also like to see a couple more walks from him. Carroll's OBP the last four years (when he's played about 140 games a year) is .360. It's .315 right now, but that's due to the low BA. He's walking 10% of his plate appearances, which is terrific. Revere has always had a good OBP in the minors, and given time could again in the big leagues. And, Joe Mauer certain has a great OBP...
Francisco Liriano was a great pitch-to-contact pitcher in 2006 and 2010. He walked very few hitters. This year, he isn't throwing any strikes. Can't get strikeouts if you can't throw strikes.
2006 they drafted Parmelee, Benson, Robertson, MAnship, Valencia and Slama
2007 was Revere who flew through the system and can certainly play a role and make an impact.
2008 - Aaron Hicks still looks like a good prospect with a high ceiling... Gutierrez hasn't panned out yet, and his health is a concern. Hunt was a miss, but those happen. Brian Dozier was drafted too.
2009 - Gibson was the right choice, and he remains a top prospect even after Tommy John (rounds 1s-4 weren't so good).
2010 - Alex Wimmers was the right choice. COudlnt' have anticipated 2011 based on anything, and now we hope his elbow is OK.
2011 - Levi Michael, everyone wanted a college middle infielder, an the Twins took one that was thought of more highly by experts than where the Twins took him.
That said, Mark Appel's pitch counts and lack of strikeouts concern me. I'd lean toward Kyle Zimmer at this point. Buxton would be a good pick. Zunino would be a good pick. Max Fried, a high school lefty, would probably be a good pick... A sleeper consideration might be Fried's high school teammate, Lucas Giolito, who was likely the #1 overall pick until his season ended with elbow problems. He's so young and so talented, that even if he did need Tommy JOhn surgery, his upside might be worth the risk.

I like Carlos Correa, a SS from Puerto Rico though. And, if he takes Appel, Gausman, Zimmer, Fried, Giolito... he won't be drafting a soft-tosser.

The offense is generally OK (although the're like 2nd to last in runs scored - courtesy Travis Twins Talk)... Doumit was a great signing, as was Carroll and so was Willingham.
